Under the guidance of Amy Bateman,-British Life Photographer of the Year, author and photographer of Forty Farms, and Andy Jones -a  Photographer specialising in Landscapes.

The day will consist of a morning starting at 9.30am at Glencoyne Farm based on the shores of Ullswater and the afternoon spent on the nearby Gowbarrow Fell, finishing around about 4pm.

Morning
The morning will be spent at Glencoyne Farm, Ullswater. Featured in ‘Forty Farms’, this is the National Trust’s largest farm at nearly 1,300 hectares. With 600 acres being fell -including Gowbarrow Fell, this traditional hill farm was established back in the 1600’s and is now maintained by current tenants Sam and Can Hodgson and their family.
The couple being local pioneers of regenerative farming since long before the buzzwords hit the media mainstream, they have also made peace with the ever-growing Lakeland tourist juggernaut and we are delighted to collaborate them to offer this unique photography day.

A conservation Charity, the National Trust, aims to protect the natural and cultural fabric of the Lake District. Part of the fabric is the familiar icon; the Herdwick sheep.

We will spend a morning watching Herdwicks being shepherded, including a portrait session with the opportunity to get close up with these icons, and a chance to see a working farm in a classic location within the Lake District National Park. We will also be able to photograph fell ponies, traditional farm buildings, Belted Galloway cattle and real life action on a lakeland farm.
The farm has multiple opportunities for nature, macro and landscape photography and we will endeavour to make the day suit the requirements of the group.

We love the rain here in Cumbria; it fills the lakes and makes the grass grow, so we won’t be put off by adverse conditions. There will be walking involved and you will definitely need your wellies for the farm.

Hot beverages will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch.

Afternoon
After lunch we will climb the small fell ‘next door’ to the farm known as Gowbarrow Fell. Standing to the north of Ullswater, Gowbarrow is grazed by Glencoyne’s livestock and there are exceptional views across Ullswater towards Red Screes and Helvellyn. The fell was one of Alfred Wainwright’s favourites. It is only 481m but a still demands a good level of mobility and walking boots recommended. We have another course coming soon for a less physically demanding option.

We have chosen autumn to host this special photography day to hopefully capture the magnificence of the Lake District in all its autumn glory.
If the weather is particularly inconsiderate we will stay off the fell and focus on Aira Force instead, a 20m waterfall next door again, to Glencoyne Farm.
