Farm Photography Tours in the Lake District

Our farm photography tours will give you unique access to photography subjects normally out of reach. Whether you are a professional wanting to add to your stock library, or a beginner with a love of the countryside, we will present a variety of environments and situations for you to capture that represent upland livestock farming in Cumbria. Our groups will be of a maximum size of 4. Please contact me if you wish to bring a larger group.

The day starts with a welcome and safety briefing on the farm. We will then head out and give you access to a variety of farming settings which will be seasonally dependent. Whatever the weather we will be able to capture a shepherd in action with the Lakeland hills as a backdrop. Working collie dogs are team members here at Croft Foot and you can photograph them both at work and at play.

We have old and new stone barns and;

• vintage tractors
• bull with a ring in its nose (at a safe protected distance!)
• suckler cows and their calves
• sheep and lambs
• variety of new and old machinery
• farm gates
• barn doors
• stone walls
• traditional laid hedgerows
• and hidden corners all waiting for you to capture them in your own style

In the spring and early summer, there will be lots of lambs.
In the autumn the changing colours add a vibrancy to the landscape.
A chance of snow in winter adds an extreme dimension to the landscape.

Our farm has multiple opportunities for nature, macro and landscape photography too and we will endeavour to make the day suit the requirements of the group. Whatever the weather, we love the rain here in Cumbria; it fills the lakes and makes the grass grow, so we won’t be put off by adverse conditions. There will be some walking involved and you will definitely need your wellies.
Enjoy a hot Cumbrian Farmhouse lunch before heading back out for the afternoon. There are plenty of macro opportunities, animal portraits and landscapes to be captured here on our farm in Cumbria. Relax with refreshments at the end of the course and an opportunity to review your images before heading home.

We are now able to offer accommodation on our farm in one of our luxury Glamping pods, these sleep two comfortably and four at a cosy squeeze, for a minimum two night stay. I can help with alternative accommodation suggestions locally. We offer a pick up service at Oxenholme Lake District train station just ten minutes away, making your Farm Photography Tour easily accessible from London in less than three hours. Please note; I will not be teaching photographic skills on these courses but will of course be on hand to assist in helping you capture your images.

One-to-one day tours are available on request. These will give unparalleled access to the farm, its livestock, buildings and landscapes with me as your sole guide. Again, all refreshments, hot lunch and even some hidden surprises will make this a day (and images) to remember. Please contact me for prices and dates.
